Had lunch with friends who have a property down at the river. I've mentioned previously that only crazy people live out here. They're pretty remote - it's a 25 minute drive (from the main road) through twisting canyons and across streams on a 4WD-only dirt track before you reach their property. Haven't really seen them since the bushfires, which came right past their house. There are bands of fire damage. Close to the river it's starting to grow back. Then about 20-30M up the hill the lanscape changes completely to "no survivors". The heat was too intense. Yet sprinkled amongst all the black sticks extending as far as the eye can see are a handful of green shoots and they're all exactly the same. "Currajong trees", I'm told. "You can't kill the things".
I know what I'm planting next.
