Why is HTML email so bad?
I'm not asking why it's *bad* – maybe even an ideal implementation of HTML email wouldn't be worth the inherent insecurity.
But I don't understand how it ended up *so* bad – that is, so much worse and less standards compliant than browser HTML.
Naively, I'd have thought we could just use browser HTML renderers to display email (at least for webmail clients/clients built by browser vendors, which must be most of the market)
What am I missing about the history there?
