Several Friendica and Hubzilla sites are engaging in a blackout today in protest of changes to EU law. These actions are strictly those of individual site operators. Zotlabs (an entity representing the software ventures of Mike Macgirvin - creator of Friendica, Hubzilla, Zap and more) remains sympathetic to the issues raised but has taken no official stand on the matter and would prefer that such protest be directed at EU lawmakers and not ordinary humans.
If your site was affected by this protest and you do not yet have a backup, I personally apologise for the inconvenience. This is just one more reason why nomadic identity (the ability to host your social identity on multiple servers simultaneously) is critical to the decentralised web.
